Lead with Levity

Ep. 99 Suffering in Silence: Addressing Imposter Syndrome in the Workplace

Dr. Heather Walker and licensed therapist Athina Danilo dive into the topic of imposter syndrome in this episode of the Lead with Levity podcast. They discuss how many people suffer in silence with this issue and how it can cause individuals to feel like nothing they do is good enough, constantly striving to achieve more and tie their worth to their achievements.

Dr. Heather and Athina explore how societal and cultural messages reinforce the idea that our worth is tied to our work and accomplishments, and how this can make it difficult to shift our mindset and embrace the idea that we are worthy just as we are. The conversation gets deep and psychological as they talk about how to recognize and combat negative self-talk and rediscover the different pieces of ourselves beyond what we do for work. If you’re someone who feels like you’re always putting others before yourself, constantly striving for perfection, or feeling like you’re not enough, this episode is for you.

Tune in for some helpful insights and tips to help combat imposter syndrome and find your worth beyond your accomplishments.

"The thing to remember is that we're not responsible for managing how other people feel when we say no. They're having their own emotional reaction, that's okay.We could respect that but it doesn't mean that just because someone's disappointed that we've done something wrong by saying no or asking for help. "
Athina Danilo's quote on imposter syndrome: "If you make a mistake or do something wrong that's not okay, that's a weakness, that's a failure. That means something bad about you or even the fear of getting receiving criticism or being judged. That could just lead more to the cycle of doing and proving yourself, which then ultimately leads to burnout."
"It's important for them to hear that enriching your life with other things will also enrich your work. It'll enrich your creativity and your ability to come up with new solutions."
